Project files in SDL Studio Trados 2019

This is the guide about Project files in SDL Studio Trados 2019, that help you to use SDL Studio Trados 2019 easier.

Any file that is part of a project is known as a project file. You add files to a project when you create the project. You can also add files to an existing project.

Individual files and folder files

You can add files to a project individually or you can add a folder hierarchy.

When you add a folder, all of the files in the selected folder structure are added to the project and the folder structure is replicated in each of the project target language folders. When the project *.sdlxliff files are created, they are placed in the appropriate target language folder.

If the project files are not currently in a folder structure, you can create a folder structure manually and add the files to it. Files cannot be moved once they have been added to a folder. If you add a file to the wrong folder, delete it and then add it to the correct folder.

File usage

Project files can have different functions, also known as file usage functions. File usage indicates why a file has been added to a project.

File usage Description
Translatable

Translatable files are files which can be converted to SDL XLIFF files for translation.

Localizable

Localizable files are files that require localization work, but which cannot be converted to SDL XLIFF format. Localizable files might be included in the project so they can be managed with other project files. For example, graphics files that are marked as Reference may contain text that needs to be localized. You can change the usage of such files to Localizable to flag this.

Reference

Reference files are included in the project for consultation purposes only.

File types

File type settings control the way that SDL Trados Studio prepares files of each file type for translation. These settings can be customized and new file types can also be specified.
