Adding files to existing projects in SDL Studio Trados 2019

This is the guide about Adding files to existing projects in SDL Studio Trados 2019, that help you to use SDL Studio Trados 2019 easier.

You can add files to an existing project in the Files view.

About this task

You can add files individually or you can add a folder structure. If your files are not used for translation purposes, but you want to manage them together with the translatable files, you can then change their usage. If you added the files to an SDL Trados GroupShare project, you must also upload them to the Trados GroupShare Project Server by checking them in.

Procedure

1. Go to the Projects view and double-click the project for which you want to add files.

2. In the Files view:To add files individually, select Add Files > Quick Add Files. The files are added to the project source language as Translatable files.

  • To add files individually and apply a batch task to them, select Add Files > Add Files and Run Custom Batch Tasks. In the Batch Processing dialog, specify the batch task to apply to files. When the Batch Processing wizard is done, the files are added to the project source language as Translatable files.
  • To add files that you do not plan to use for translation purposes, but want to manage them together with the translatable files, select Add Files > Add Reference Files. The files are added to the project source language as Reference files.
  • To add a folder of files or a folder hierarchy, select Add Folder. The files are added to the project source language as Translatable files.

Note: To create a folder structure before adding the files, select New Folder. You cannot move files in the folder structure. If you add a file to the wrong folder you must remove it and then add it to the correct folder.

3. If your decide that other files than the ones you added as reference are not going to be translated in SDL Trados Studio, you can change the files usage to Reference or Localizable. Select the file and, on the Home tab, select Change File Usage. Choose the file usage in the dialog and select OK.

4. If you are working with Translatable files, prepare the new files for translation; otherwise move on to the next step. Select the files, right-click them and then, on the context menu, select Batch Tasks > Prepare:

  • On the Batch Tasks page, in the Batch Processing wizard, check the Tasks box where you can see the processes that the Prepare task will perform on the selected files. The new files will have the same settings used to create the original project files.
  • If necessary, you can view or change the project settings before processing the files. Select Next and make any changes on the Settings
  • Select Finish to prepare the files for translation. Bilingual *.sdlxliff files are created and added to all target language folders. They are also displayed in the Files view when you select a target language from the navigation pane.

5. Optionally, if you are working with an SDL Trados GroupShare project, the files need to be uploaded to Project Server, so that other team members can access the files. Select the source language version of the files, right-click them, and then select Check In. The files are uploaded to the Project Server and can now be accessed by other team members. If you uploaded new Translatable source files, the *.sdlxliff files that were created for every target language in the project are also automatically uploaded.
